Soccer Programme - scoring goals!

  • May 29, 2018

Sport provides a sense of connection for all young people in our community and even more so for the newly arrived. The Refugee Hub Soccer Programme assisted thirteen youth to participate in the 2018 season in local clubs.

These boys were the lucky recipient of a Multicultural NSW Support Grant – Participation. This grant assisted the boys with soccer registration fees, club kit and sporting equipment. Our thanks to Sue Woodward at Jesmond Soccer Club for her ongoing support of these and other boys who are keen to play soccer in their local area.

The grant allowed the boys to purchase sporting equipment from Kingsgrove Sport Centre. Jody Whitehead, Manager assisted and stated he was “happy to help and see the boys get some enjoyment from the experience.”

Community support for soccer

Hi Vis continue to be strong supporters of Refugee Hub. Through their networks and connection with local soccer club Mayfield United, they further assisted the Refugee Hub Soccer Programme making a 13 year old boy very happy!

Masoud achieved a place in the under 14’s side after a successful try-out and is enjoying weekly soccer with Mayfield United. We thank Mayfield United for their generous support of Masoud. Their practical assistance, including transport to training and matches, is allowing a young boy to enjoy football and friendship.
