Each refugee experience is unique, like each person who arrives.

Hearing a refugee’s story is an honour and helps us all understand the needs of the newly arrived to Australia. John Sandy, Project Liaison Officer – DARA is a regular presenter at Schools, Universities, TAFE and local businesses. He generously shares his story in the belief that it helps us all to understand the many challenges refugee families experience getting to Australia and how we can help them feel welcome and overcome the difficulties of starting a new life in an unfamiliar country and culture.

"John delivered a brilliant talk to my students today. It was engaging, informative and highly relevant to their study of refugee law and human rights."Shaun McCarthy, Director, University of Newcastle Legal Centre (UNLC)

"John, your presentation was excellent and very well received by both staff and students." Michael Sibert, St Francis Xavier College

“I felt honoured to hear John’s story." Participant at multicultural training, Department of Human Services.
